Pan Acoustics P 261 AMT Cine<\/h2>\n

Here are the new P 261 AMT Cine loudspeakers from Pan Acoustics. According to Pan Acoustics, the P 261 AMT Cine is a passive loudspeaker system, with a D’Appolito arrangement, in an appealing, compact column design for speech and music applications. The speakers are characterized by a high degree of detail and excellent resolution, even at the highest frequencies. The speaker contains two 6.5\u201d HQ woofers and a specially developed Mundorf AMT tweeter.<\/p>\n

Aluminium housing<\/h3>\n

Like (almost) all speakers from Pan Acoustics, the housing of the P 261 AMT is also made of aluminium. Recommended amplifier: 600W minimum at 4 ohms. No problem. What do we do; first listen and then measure? Or measure first and then listen? The mind says the latter, the feeling the first. Today the feelings win. Music on it! We’ll start with a low beat: Thanks to You by Boz Scaggs. That scares most speakers. In this case, it wasn’t the speakers that shocked\u2026<\/p>\n

And when you’re listening, an hour goes by. What has Pan Acoustics put in these speakers? Frightened, I forgot to save the curve. The result was one EQ band centred at 60Hz with a gain of 1.5dB and a Q of 0.8. Did I mention I like bass? And also twinkly highs and warm mid-low? Etc? And that these two rascals produce all that? At a volume that doesn’t make the neighbours happy?<\/p>\n

Air Motion Transformer (AMT)<\/h3>\n

The price of these speakers already indicates that it must be a speaker of the better class. But so much low from two 6.5 inch woofers? And that AMT tweeter also deserves some attention. AMT stands for Air Motion Transformer. A principle invented by Dr Oskar Heil, also the inventor of the FET. The principle is a bit like a ribbon tweeter, but instead of a strip between a magnet, the AMT tweeter uses a folded diaphragm. And where the ribbon tweeter moves from front to back, the AMT moves like an accordion and squeezes the air out of the tweeter, as it were.<\/p>\n

Because the outgoing air is ‘multiplied’ by the shape of the diaphragm, the name transformer came into being. A small lateral movement becomes a larger airflow.
\nNice, but how does the P 261 AMT sounds?<\/p>\n

Applicable in different areas<\/h3>\n

What my colleagues and I thought of the P 261 AMT Cine loudspeakers: detailed, fast, open, not tiring. An additional advantage of this tweeter and this version is the opening angle of the loudspeaker 130\u00b0 x 20\u00b0. It makes the P 261 AMT also suitable for acoustically more difficult rooms.<\/p>\n

A small circle around the speaker confirms that the off-axis reproduction is very regular. There are no weird phase issues when you play pink noise and walk around the speaker. It is strange to listen to a loudspeaker that is not to be faulted. Usually, this is due to the price and the forgiveness of the reviewer because: Well, it costs a little. I think back to the test session of the WORK PRO CS214 column loudspeaker. A loudspeaker that is not entirely perfect, but delivers a good performance for its money.<\/p>\n

The Pan Acoustics P 261 AMT Cine sounds good, looks good, measures well, go loud and can be used in many rooms. There is also a different price.<\/p>\n

PAN P 261 AMT Cine and Event<\/h3>\n

In addition to the Cine version, there is also an Event version of the P 261 AMT. The P 261 AMT Event gets even louder than the Cine, at the expense of the bass extension. Intended for use with one or more subwoofers to create a full-range system for live amplification and all rooms where the 261 AMT Cine also can be used. The P 261 AMT Event loudspeaker has slightly higher efficiency and can produce a continuous SPL of 125dB. Both loudspeakers are part of the PAN AMT series.<\/p>\n
